Hidden benefits to a speech impediment

Today, what I would like to share with you is something that has happened recently. I met this handsome, smart, young man, his name is Ian. Dedicated, hard working, the work, really! Enough to make any parent really proud, yet this young man has a speech impediment.

When we met, we started talking about EFT and how it could possibly help him. He is at an age where he really wants to find a great job, (and it does require public speaking) as well as dating and hopefully meet his future wife, so it was quite evident that for Ian to get rid of this speech impediment is something that he really really wanted to do.

As we were doing some tapping together so I could show him how EFT works, I saw on his face a deep realization. As he was tapping, and I could see the excitement build up, and then suddenly his face grew very quiet and his tapping started slowing down, suddenly, slowly he said: “if I get better and stop stuttering, I will make my sisters wrong”. I asked for clarifications, and he looked at me, and continued explaining that both of his sisters chose Speech therapy as a career and that he was the marking influence in their decision, yet after both of them being successful in their work, he was still stuttering, and he couldn’t disappoint them by getting better and showing them that someone else succeeded when they didn’t. We also tapped on that fear.

Today if you were to meet Ian, you wouldn’t believe that he had such a speech impediment. When nervous, he still stutters, but not as much and only when nervous, but then, it just reminds him of how far he came from. And he still tap on it, he taps before he does any public speaking, or anytime he is afraid of speaking up, and he taps after, allowing him to free him of his fears and mistakes. I am telling you, any parent would be so proud of him. Oh! and by the way, his sisters are really proud too!

Finding One’s Niche

During one of my EFT classes, one of the students asked: “Should we specialize in a niche?”, “How do we find our niche?” To this, the instructor proceeded to explain that if we pay close attention, we won’t find our niche, the niche will find us.

Look at your clients, who are you attracting? Who is getting the most benefits from your sessions? When I first started practicing, I thought I was going to specialize in health issues. I really believed that this was were I was going to make the biggest impact, yet believe it or not, although I have had great results, this hasn’t become my niche. My niche has become Marketing and business roadblocks. If you had asked me two years ago, if this would be something I would work with, I would have said no. I never saw me as a business person nor making an impact in the business world, yet surprisingly enough, I have helped people start their business, overcome some huge roadblocks and really take the plunge. And I have helped even with writer’s block. All of this through me. Sometimes when I stop and think about it, I am still amazed.

If you haven’t tried EFT yet, please get in touch and start with our 20 minutes free introduction and if you are too shy or uncomfortable, use our free videos to get you started. Find an issue you would like to tap on, rate it and find a video in our library that you would find engaging (even if it has nothing to do with your subject) and start tapping.  I would be so happy if I had been able to help you overcome your own hurdle even if its just through one of my videos.  Please, take a moment to let me know how EFT has changed your life.

EFT and Back Pain

As some of you may know, I was recently part of a week long Relationship seminar based on EFT. The day before the program started, Baby and I decided to go to the grocery store and buy some  food  as we knew it was going to be busy and wouldn’t have much time during the training.

As we were walking towards the grocery store, baby and I saw a woman riding a bicycle with a child seat attached to the front of the bicycle as opposed to a trailer attached to the back of the bike, which really got me excited that maybe if we had time during the seminar or after, we could rent a bike and spend some time visiting the place and doing some exercise all at the same time, we were so excited! As we continued walking towards the grocery store, we noticed a bike rental store, with the lady, her name was Melanie, helping two clients with bikes they had just rented. So we decided to stop and started talking with Melanie.

One of the first questions that she asked when she found out we were staying at the hotel just down the road from her, was what is the workshop for, she asked. After a quick introduction, I mentioned to her, ” You know, the best way to really understand EFT is to do a simple round on something that is currently bothering you, you seem to have back pain is that correct?” (I had noticed earlier how she twitched her middle back ever so often) She replied that yes as a matter of fact, just before she met me outside her shop she had wanted to go inside and use a certain pain killer and go sit in the darkest room of the shop,  thus I offered to work on it.

“Listen,” I said, “I can’t guarantee anything but lets just do a quick round, help me describe your pain right now” She went on describing where her pain was, , and some of the questions we often ask when working as a practitioner is if the pain has any shape, form or color, as well as on a scale from 0 to 10, 0 being no pain and 10 being at the top, where she rated her pain, all of this to help them better visualize and tune into their pain, which in return create a better chance at creating a shift and relieving pain.

After a few moments, we were ready to tap:
– Even though I have this back pain bothering me, , it’s at an 8, this big grey spikey cloud taking over my back and I am ready to take pain medicine and just lay low, I fully and completely love and accept myself

Now here is one of the interesting part, a lot of clients have difficulties saying ” I Love and Accept myself” but Melanie just started crying, really hard.  So we added:
– Even though I have this back pain and now I have to start loving and accepting myself when I really dont want to, its too hard, and I really really dont love and accept myself, I am ready to start the process

(we did another Even though, including both the pain and the Loving and Accepting statement) and then we started tapping on different points
– This 8 in my back
– Its really hurting me, I want to take a  painkiller
– Its a big grey spikey cloud
– and apparently my back pain is there to tell me that I dont love and accept myself
– How could you love and accept yourself with such pain
– I just want to lay low in a dark room and be left alone
– I don’t love and accept myself
– This cloud really hurts me
– I dont know what to do about it
– This 8 in my back

After just a quick round, I asked her again to rate her pain from 0 to 10. Here is another reason why, before we start tapping, we ask to rate the pain, sometimes the shifts are so great that clients forget how big of a problem it really was at the beginning.
Her pain was now a little 3, she never experienced so much relief and so quick, admitting that even her painkillers wouldn’t bring her such a relief let alone in such rapid time frame.

The entire session lasted less than 5 minutes, and brought her so much relief that she was glad to actually go back to work and skip the painkiller. We took a few more minutes for me to write down how she could tap on her own again if the pain came back or even if she needed just an emotional boost in case she was having a hard day!

My Emotional Boost – EFT

For many years already, my emotional boost as been stamped with the Starbucks mark. My husband knew that if I was having a bad/long/draining day, all he had to do was to make a quick stop @ Starbucks and get me my favorite drink: Venti Soy Chai Latte. Nothing could ever beat that first sip. No matter how bad the day was going, that first sip always brought me back to: ahhh, now things are better. It was that little comfort like a mommy holding a crying baby, nothing beats that! Ahhhhhh

Then I discovered EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as Tapping. It never gives me the same ahhhhhh, my venti does, but it does give me that emotional boost like nothing else can, even that venti. Every time I tap, I feel so good, during and after. Sometimes I can even get lost in my tapping, I forget to say out loud my reminders, but somehow  I think that it’s when  my subconscious is talking the loudest. I feel good. My venti makes me feel good only for the time I am drinking/enjoying it, but EFT makes me good during and after my tapping session.

Why? because as we tap, it releases endorphins, yes the same thing as when you go work out, it doesn’t burn the same amount of calories, but I do believe that if you are someone who can’t go to the gym due to chronic health issues, tapping is definitely a viable option to help you release those feel good hormones, what I call my  Emotional Boost!

To your good health!

Steps to help with procrastination Part 1

We all seem busier than ever before these days, living life in the fast lane. We have turned into a nation of multi-taskers. We also have turned into a  procrastination nation since, for many of us, there isn’t enough time to catch up. A little procrastination won’t ruin your life, but sometimes it becomes a problem and keep you from having the life you were meant to have.

In this series, we will discuss  different ways to handle our procrastination with EFT. This series is also based on a book called “EFT for Procrastination” by Gloria Arenson, MFT

Today the technique I would like to discuss is a technique called “Dear Abby.” Most people are familiar with this popular column in the newspaper growing up. People would write to “Dear Abby” and share their problem,  and Abby would write back with a suggestion on what to do. The exercise suggests that you write a long paragraph to Dear Abby about what you are currently procrastinating about.

The book uses Theresa as an example. Theresa was fifty and divorced her husband of thirty years. She had been a home maker all that time and hadn’t worked. Because he was no longer supporting her, she had to find a job. She would get up every morning with the intention of looking for a job but would find many distractions that she never got around to following through. She remarked that she was too old and fat, embarrassed to go for an interview. “No one will hire me.” Her beliefs kept her  sitting at home feeling depressed and stuck.

Following the exercise, she would  write to Dear Abby something like follow:

Dear Abby,
I am a fifty year old who needs a job. I haven’t had to work in thirty years, and I am very nervous about fidning employment. Although I have taken a brush-up class in typing and using computers, I dont have faith in myself. I start out every day telling myself I should look for work, but watch TV for hours, talk on the phone with friends, and do everything but read the want ads or go on interviews. Sometimes I don’t even get dressed. When tey see how overweight I am, no one will want me. I don’t know how to motivate myself. Please help.
Thanks for your advice,
Theresa

After the paragraph stating her problem, she would then reread her paragraph and highlight all the negative beliefs (stinkin’ thinkin’.) Then she can use EFT on each of these beliefs and change her way of thinking.

So, let us go back together and highlight some of the negative beliefs she could tap on:

Dear Abby,
I am a fifty year old who needs a job. I haven’t had to work in thirty years, and I am very nervous about finding employment. Although I have taken a brush-up class in typing and using computers, I don’t have faith in myself. I start out every day telling myself I should look for work, but watch TV for hours, talk on the phone with friends, and do everything but read the want ads or go on interviews. Sometimes I don’t even get dressed. When they see how overweight I am, no one will want me. I don’t know how to motivate myself. Please help.
Thanks for your advice,
Theresa

Let’s go rewiew them. Some are very apparent like “I don’t have faith in myself”, “When they see how overweight I am, no one will want me” but what about the other two, why did I highlight them? Because they show clear SHOULDs, “I should look for work”, and although the other one doesn’t clearly say it, it is what is called a  HIDDEN SHOULD.  “I (should) read the want ads or go on interviews”. Now, reading your “Dear Abby” paragraph does require some detective work on your part, but after you tap on each of these beliefs holding you back, you will feel better about yourself

Going back to Theresa, after tapping on each of her negative beliefs, she felt more confident about herself. Within a short time, a friend recommended her to someone who offered her a fascinating job that she excelled at and loved doing. She didn’t have to answer  any ads or go through rigorous interviews after all.

When you decide to pay attention to your thoughts and to what comes out of your mouth, you  will be flabbergasted at how you create a reality that is neither reasonable nor kind. Now that you know what to look for, go write your complaints to “Dear Abby”, do your detective work, and you can tap away the negative and install a positive outlook on life. When the fears dissolve, so do the obstacles to move forward.
